LOT-MerA-GDH
A system that visualizes the MerA enzyme on the cell surface without the addition of the cofactor NADPH.
The LOT anchor motif is post-translationally fused to the MerA enzyme (BBa_K5257022) and the GDH enzyme (BBa_K5257020) by the DogTag/DogCatcher system. The MerA enzyme will volatilize inorganic mercury (Hg2+) before it enters the cell, the enzyme requires the cofactor NADPH which will be provided by the GDH enzyme, thus no external addition of the cofactor will be necessary, which is a great advantage.
The iGEM Bolivia team will use it for a novel organic mercury biosensor. However, this part can also be used in bioremediation.
